SoI blames AP, Karnataka for survey delay

Banglore, July 17: The Survey of India (SOI), which was asked by the Supreme Court to identify the boundary between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh following allegations of altering the border by the Reddy brothers of Bellary, has sought proper data and maps from both the states to complete its task.

In a affidavit filed today deputy secretary-general (survey) RK Meena blamed officials of the two states for the delay in identifying the inter-state boundary and asked the court to direct both the states to provide mutually agreed inter-state boundary or to provide revised lease, sketches.

“After the receipt of the data, demarcation work will be completed in one month,’’ he said.

Meena accused both the states of making it impossible for it to resolve the mining lease boundary dispute within the stipulated time by neither giving their consent for the 1975 maps nor providing an alternative maps.

The affidavit also stated that the Composite Survey Committee, which inspected the boundary site some time ago, pointed out that the major reason for boundary dispute was that the lease sketches were defective and deficient, making demarcation of the boundaries of mine leases difficult.
