Sohrabuddin case: 2 accused fear danger to lives

Ahmedabad, May 03: Fearing danger to their lives, two of the accused in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case have approached a CBI court saying they do not want to be shifted from their present barrack at Sabarmati Jail to some other place.

N V Chauhan and Balkrishna Choube yesterday filed a plea in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A Y Dave who scheduled the next hearing on May 6.

In their application, the duo said that they fear for their lives in other parts of the jail.

They contended that they feel safe in the Sardar barrack since the suspended IPS officer D G Vanzara, a prime accused in the case with Z category security is lodged there.

The duo filed the application after the jail authorities informed them that they would be transferred to some other barrack in the jail.

They have also asked for direction to the jail authorities for status quo to be maintained till their application is disposed off.

Fourteen accused in the fake encounter case, including three IPS officers, Vanzara, Dinesh M N and Rajkumar Pandiyan have been in Sabarmati prison since April 2007.
