Sohrab encounter case: Court raises many questions

Mumbai: On Monday, the special CBI judge raised questions on various aspects during the prosecution’s final arguments in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case.

It was also questioned about the presence of Tulsiram Prajapati in the bus from Hyderabad to Sangli along with Shaikh and his wife Kausar Bi.

According to the report of TOI, on November 23, 2005 Shaikh was allegedly abducted by police personnel of ATS, Gujarat near Hyderabad along with his wife Kausar Bi.

On November 25, 2005, the couple was taken to Ahmedabad and Sohrabuddin was killed in a fake encounter. His wife was killed and her body was disposed.

Prajapati, an alleged witness, was also murdered in an alleged staged encounter on December 26, 2006.

The 22 accused was taken on trial in the case and pointing to the complicity of that, the prosecution submitted that the bus ticket from Surat to Ahmedabad found on the body of Shaikh did not have blood stains, alluding to the fact that it was planted on him.

However, the court pointed out that the prosecution had not clarified who had planted it.

With reference to Prajapati’s presence on the bus, the court raised queries on why this was not mentioned before 2010. It also asked why Rubabuddin Shaikh, brother of Sohrabuddin, had not brought this to the notice of SC.
