Sohail banking on county stint to regain form

Lahore, July 25: Fast bowler Sohail Tanvir was pleased to earn a one-year contract with Surrey, and believes that his stint with the English county will help him retain his place in the national side.

Tanvir was ruled out of Pakistan’s five-match one-day series against Sri Lanka starting next week, and the paceman said he can use the Surrey stint to prepare himself for the national cause.

”I am very honoured and excited at getting a one-year deal with a renowned county like Surrey,” Tanvir said. ”I hope a stint with Surrey will help me get fitter and regain my form, and with it I get my Pakistan place back,” the 24-year-old was quoted as saying by ‘The News’.

The left-armer, who has been off form since he was the leading wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural season of the IPL.

He lost his place in the Pakistan squad follwoing the first one-day International against Sri Lanka this year, before he was recalled for the limited over series against Australia in April-May, where he again failed to impress.

Tanvir has been a part of the Pakistan squad which won this year’s World Twenty20 but once again he failed to come up a even par show in the matches he played.

”I am aware that I am not bowling to the best of my ability, but I am confident that the loss of form is temporary and bowling at The Oval (where Surrey are based) will give me my confidence and form back,” the seamer, who has played two Tests, 31 ODIs and 13 T20 games since his debut in 2007, said.
