Mumbai, April 10: Smriti Radhakrishnan was on a roll scoring 31 points to power hosts Maharashtra women to a facile 72-56 victory over South Western Railway in the opening match of the 27th UPL- Ramu Memorial Basketball Tournament at the Indian Gymkhana here today.
Smriti’s efforts were supplemented by captain Manisha Dange, who scored 17 points.
The hosts began on a positive note, jumping to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter, which they extended to 37-24 at half-time.
The third quarter saw South Western Railway enjoy a period of supremacy, which saw them dominate the 10-minute period, scoring 18 points to Maharashtra’s 17, but they could not maintain the tempo in the last quarter.
For South Western Railway, Savitha with 20 points, Smitha (12) and Anumathi (11) were the main scorers.
