Ms. Smriti Irani, Union Minister for Human Resource Development made contradictory statement under oath about her education in the affidavit filed with Election Nomination Papers for Lok Sabha elections of 2004 and 2014. In 2004 she contested from Chandni Chowk Parliamentary constituency of New Delhi. In her nomination papers, she declared her qualification as B.A. (1996) from Delhi University School of Correspondence but in the affidavit filed by her for Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in UP she wrote that she completed Part I examination of B.Com from School of Open learning, University of Delhi in 1994.
Ms. Brinda Karat , Member of Politburo of CPI(M) reacted sharply to the arrest of Mr. Tomar and said that if he can be arrested for fake degree why can’t Smriti Irani be dealt with the same treatment?
Mr. Roji M John, President of National Students’ Union of India hope that Delhi police will also arrest Simriti Irani under the charge of filing false affidavit. He also said that Mr. Nihal Chand, Minister of State in Modi Govt. who is facing rape charges should also be arrested.
A case is being heard at Delhi High Court under The Representation of the People Act, 1951, against Ms. Smriti Irani, Union Minister of HRD and an order on taking cognizance of the complaint is likely on 24th June, 2015.
