In a bid to counter Rahul Gandhi, who has been championing the farmers’ cause, senior BJP leader and Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday visited the Congress vice president’s constituency, Amethi, where she held a ‘Kisan Panchayat’ and interacted with farmers affected by untimely rains.
Responding to Rahul’s appeal to her to bring back the food processing park in Amethi, Irani said, “It is perhaps for the first time in the history of India that a winner in the Lok Sabha elections is making appeal to one whom he had defeated for the development of his constituency. The truth is that he has not done anything as the MP of Amethi in last 10 years. He has shown complete disinterest in the constituency.”
Irani was on a day-long visit to Amethi on Tuesday. “I appeal to him to attend my function in his constituency on May 26, in which I shall pay from my pocket the first premium of the farmers to avail the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.”
