Johannesburg: Australia’s new skipper Steve Smith has urged his side to switch focus to the upcoming tour against New Zealand after their two-Test matches against Bangladesh was called off due to security concerns.
The 26-year-old batsman said that focus has now moved on preparing for the New Zealand tour as it would be quite challenging to play against the latter, Sport24 reported.
He further described New Zealand tour as a ‘magnificent opportunity’, adding that he is extremely excited to lead the team against them.
Reflecting his views on adjourning their Bangladesh tour, Smith said that safety and security of the players is their biggest priority, insisting that it was not safe for them to travel Bangladesh right now.
Smith, for whom the Bangladesh tour would have been his first assignment as full-time skipper, however, said that Bangladesh tour was great opportunity for his side and they were looking forward to play with new players.
Australia will play three Tests against New Zealand on their home soil, starting from November 5 at Brisbane. (ANI)
