Exhorting the States to work in coordination with the Centre for rapid growth to transform the chosen cities as smarter to get global look, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today disclosed that Smart Cities concept will begin across the country from September 1.
The Union minister was participating in a two-day national conclave on Smart Cities and Smart Technologies at Novotel Hotel here on Saturday. Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao was also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Venkaiah Naidu promised to implement the concept to transform 100 cities as smart initially whose process of selection will be completed by the end of this month. Stating that the Centre would make the towns and villages smart in future, Venkaiah said “smart city” means a place where the people can live in complete peaceful atmosphere. He further stated the entire world was looking towards India and many organizations, industrialists and companies are evincing interest in roping in with huge investments. He attributed the huge investments to the reforms being taken up by the Centre.
“We will tap them all for fast economic growth and sustainable development”, Venkaiah said. The Centre was formulating plans to produce power through waste and supply the same all the 24 hours to the people, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR emphasized the need for imparting skills to youth for development. Development has seen an upsurge with the advent of technology revolution, KTR stated. “The nation is bestowed with abundant youth force and we need to offer skills and expertise in the chosen field. This would help achieve growth and development”, he opined. (NSS)
