Small-scale units to get additional power

Hyderabad, March 27: Bowing to the pressure mounted by the industrial sector in general and small scale industries in particular against frequent power cuts, the State Government has decided to supply power for one eight-hour shift during the notified 48 hour power holiday in a week. The Government is currently imposing a two-day power holiday per week on industrial sector.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah today directed the officials of AP Discoms to amend the power holiday schedule for small scale industries accordingly to provide power for an additional one eight-hour shift continuously with effect from tomorrow. Further, the Chief Minister has directed that open access to power purchase should be expeditiously given on application by the industries concerned. The officials appraised the Chief Minister that power corridor has been made available to carry 17 million units of power to the State from other States. Rosaiah asked the officials to maintain seven-hour power supply to agriculture sector, power to drinking water supply schemes and lighting load supply between 6 p.m and 6 a.m.

He wanted the officials concerned to mitigate the concerns of other consumers as and when power becomes available and situation eases.
