Slight Rise in Prices of Meat, Fruit in Third Week of Ramadan

Abu Dhabi, September 13: The prices of meats and fruits went up slightly in the third week of Ramadan compared with the previous week, says a survey by the Statistics Center Abu Dhabi (SCAD).

The Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi, part of Department of Economic Development, which is closely monitoring the prices of essential food items falling under its Foodstuffs Price Index (FPI), noticed a sudden rise of 0.49 per cent in its index, during the third week of 
Ramadan, compared to the previous week of the month.

The rising trend is spurred by increase in the prices of meat by 0.40 per cent, fish and sea food by 2.75 per cent, fruits by 1.98 per cent, lentils by 1.04 per cent, sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery by 0.06 per cent, and coffee, tea and cocoa by 0.33 per cent.

However downward trend was registered in the prices of bread and cereals by 0.14 per cent, milk, cheese and eggs by 0.53 per cent and oils 2.15 per cent.

On the other hand the prices of mineral water, soft drinks and various types of fruit juices remained stable.

The index saw a rise of 0.28 per cent in the prices of foodstuffs during the third week of Ramadan, compared to the week, as prices of bread and cereals that went up 1.2 per cent. 
The prices of meat rose 0.43 per cent, fruits and pulses 0.64 per cent, sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery 1.35 per cent.

The prices of mineral water, soft drinks and fruit juices 0.35 per cent.

The prices of fish and seafood dropped by 2.70 per cent, milk, cheese and eggs by 0.21 per cent, oils by 
0.55 per cent and coffee, tea and cocoa by 0.10 per cent.
