Slight relief from heat wave in north India

New Delhi, June 14: Mercury today fell slightly in parts of north India with several areas receiving showers as the advancing South West monsoon is likely to hit Rajasthan and adjoining areas by next week.

Pre-monsoon activity has started in the desert state, where temperature continue to hover in the forties. Several parts of Udaipur, Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Pilani and Churu districts reveived light showers this morning.

The monsoon is likely to hit Rajasthan by June 20-21. It has advanced into parts of Konkan, Goa and Maharashtra. The condition is favourable for further progress of the system into northern parts, the Met Office said.

Chittorgarh was hottest in the state recording a maximum of 45.4 degrees, followed by Kota 44.7 C, Bikaner 43.9 C, Barmer 43.5 C and Ajmer 43 C. However mercury fell sharply to 32.4 C in Sriganganagar, which received 0.6 mm rainfall.
