S.Korea firm wins $3.6 billion UAE energy deal

Seoul, March 02: South Korea’s GS Engineering and Construction said Tuesday it has signed contracts worth 3.63 billion dollars to expand oil refinery facilities in the United Arab Emirates.

The order is the biggest-ever won by a single South Korean company for plant construction.

GS said in a regulatory filing its contracts with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co call for work to be completed by February 2014.

The work is part of a project to expand crude oil refinery facilities at Ruwais, about 250 kilometres (156 miles) west of Abu Dhabi. It aims to raise capacity by 417,000 barrels per day.

Samsung Engineering, the country’s largest plant builder, said separately it had signed a 2.73 billion dollar order in connection with the Ruwais project while SK Engineering and Construction announced a 2.1 billion dollar deal.
