SKC report to be made public at 5 PM tomorrow

Hyderabad, January 5: The report of the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee on Telangana will be placed on the website of the Union Home Ministry — www.mha.nic.in. and the general public would have an opportunity to peruse the report from 5 pm on January 6.

The Union Home Minister, Mr P Chidambaram, who will be holding a meeting of eight recognized political parties would furnish copies of the report to them. The Centre is likely to send the report by courier, if any party, boycotted the meeting and the Union Home Ministry would upload the report on its website after the meeting. After making the report public, the political parties and the media in the State might be busy in analyzing the report as four-crore people in the Telanagana region were anxiously waiting in nerve-raking tension over their fate.

The Telangana agitators, including TRS and Students’ JACs were also gearing up to intensify the agitation if the Justice Srikrishna Committee report was not favorable to the Telangana Statehood. The TRS has reportedly decided to launch movement on the lines of non-cooperation while the students JACs were favoring to agitate getting inspiration from Gujjars movement. In the chilled atmosphere of winter, the political atmosphere will be hot in Telangana with the agitations.

According to sources, though the Central paramilitary forces like the BSF and CISF were deployed in the region, they have given strict instructions that they should not resort to cane-charge or firing at the agitators. The main aim of the government in deploying paramilitary forces seems to be to create a fear on the agitators to keep them away from vandalism and violent protests.

Five companies of the paramilitary forces were deployed in Cyberabad, which was hub of several IT majors. For the first time in the history of the State, a command control system was established at Hitech City, Madhapur for its protection. Four companies of CISF and BSF forces were deployed in the Osmania University, nerve centre of the Telangana movement. But they were confined to the OU police station as their movement on the academic campus may create tension and receive opposition from all selections. The forces may swing into action once the agitation was sparked on the campus.

To protect themselves from stone pelting, the business houses were also busy in arraigning safety measures. Iron mesh and nylon netting are replacing the glitzy fronts of many a mall and multiplex theatres in the twin cities.

Last year, when the TRS Chief, Mr K Chandrasekhara Rao, was on hunger strike in the NIMS, 17 shopping malls and business establishments between Punjagutta and Ameerpet suffered huge damages in the stone-pelting by Osmania University students and other pro-Telangana protesters.
