New Delhi: A battered six-year-old girl suspected to have been sexually assaulted was found lying behind bushes in Okhla area of South East Delhi, police said today.
The girl in school uniform was found bleeding yesterday. It appeared prima facie that she was being raped and then an attempt was made to kill her, said a senior police officer.
She was rushed to AIIMS where she is receiving medical treatment. A case under relevant sections had been registered at Okhla Industrial police station, the officer said.
The girl was found by a passerby in Sanjay Colony in Ohkla Jungle where she was lying behind bushes. Several injuries on her face and other body parts were also noticed.
Parents of the girl, residents of Harkesh Nagar Colony in the area informed police that she had gone to school on July 10 but had failed to return back home and they were searching for her.
Investigations are on to find out the culprit, the officer added.
