Six undertrials escape from court lock-up, one re-arrested

Jharkhand, August 12: Six undertrials escaped from a court lock-up in Giridih district today.

One of them was re-arrested during search operation, superintendent of police A B Minz said.

Four police personnel, including the in-charge of the court lock-up, were suspended.

The undertrials escaped after removing the rods from the lock-up’s window.

They were brought to the local court for production and were lodged in the court lock-up.

A massive manhunt was launched in the district to track them and all ajoining police stations were alerted, Minz said.

All the undertrials were petty criminals and booked under loot, dacoity, forgery and theft cases, the SP said.

The police personnel, including a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector, were suspended following a report submitted to the superintendent of police in this regard by the concerned official.

Meanwhile, the district police and staff of the cell allegedly attacked the mediamen, who went there for collecting news.

Four scribes were reportedly injured after the police applied force to disperse them.
