Six suspected ‘jihadis’ held in Assam

Guwahati: Six suspected jihadis were arrested from Chirang district in Assam and a cache of arms and ammunition were seized from them by Assam Police.

Bodoland Territorial Area District IGP L R Bishnoi said two Jamatul Mujahiddin ‘jihadis’ were arrested in an operation by Chirang police last night following a tip-off.

On interrogating them, four other JM ‘jihadis’ hiding in the district were arrested, he said.

Asked, Bishnoi said no link has yet been found between the outfit and banned Jamatul Mujahiddin of Bangladesh.

No documents were also found on the six persons, he said.

The two apprehended last night were identified as Soleman Ali (26) and Hanifuddin. On interrogating Ali, four others identified as Nur Hussain (25), Habijur Ali (25), Mustaga Mondal (25) and Molek (34) were arrested today.

Bishnoi said two AK- 47 rifles and some ammunitions were seized from their possession.
