Six robbers arrested in Delhi

New Delhi, March 07: Six persons, including a father-son duo, were arrested in the capital for their alleged involvement in a series or robberies at metal factories and godowns as also stealing of electrical high voltage wire being laid down in outer Delhi and Haryana, police said today. The arrested have been identified as Rajbir Singh (51), his son Ravinder Singh (28), Mohd Shakeel (21), Sewak (30), Pradip (47) and a scrap dealer Ramavtar (38) who used to buy goods robbed by the gang.

Looted goods worth more than Rs 12 lakh, four pistols with 27 rounds and a stolen Tempo and a motorcycle were recovered from them. They were arrested on March four from outside the godown of Ramavtar in Rajdhani Park in Nangloi when they were busy loading the looted goods (metal pipes) onto the tempo.

The gang operated in outer Delhi as well as in neighbouring Haryana. In 2008-2009, six cases of robbery and theft were found registered against the gang leader, Rajbir Singh in Jind in Haryana.

In March 2009, the people of village Isapur in Delhi had confronted the gang at night and had lynched two gang members at the spot. Rajbir and the rest of the gang had managed to escape after firing shots in the air.

Rajbir had came out of the jail about four months ago. Since the last four months, he and his gang has been targeting metal factories, godowns and fresh high voltage electrical wire being laid down in outer Delhi and Bahadurgarh, Haryana, police said.
