Gondia/Nagpur, December 27: Six Naxals, including a couple, have been arrested from Gondia and Chandrapur districts of eastern Maharashtra, the police said today.
Five of them were apprehended from Gondia district yesterday while one was rounded up this morning from Chandrapur, they said.
They included two members of the state-level committee of CPI (Maiost) and a village sarpanch, the police said.
Gondia Superintendent of Police Suwej Haq told media persons that acting on a tip the police laid a trap near Deori village and nabbed five Maoists who were travelling in a jeep.
They were identified as Bhimrao alias Bhanu Bhaskar Bhovate (42), his wife Sunanda (36), Gangaram Poreti (32), Chindramani Valade (37) and Sanjay Thauram Banjara (30).
While the couple, reportedly state-level members of CPI (Maoist), hails from Amravati district, the others are native of neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
