Sharjah, May 10: Sharjah Police on Saturday arrested six Arab nationals who are involved in stealing things from as many as 25 cars. The gang was led by an Arab national who had criminal records and was declared most wanted by many police departments in the country.
The Sharjah Police in coordination with police departments of Ajman, Dubai and Abu Dhabi formed joint teams to follow the gang’s movement in four emirates.
A top official at CID told Khaleej times that they had received a large number of complaints about cars thefts including two that took place in two four-wheel-drive vehicles parked in Al Mamzar lagoon from which the thieves managed to steal four mobile phones worth Dh4,000.
The CID officers during search and investigation managed to identify one of the suspects who lived in Ajman, and in coordination with Ajman police, Sharjah CID raided his house from where a large number of mobile phones, passports and cameras as well as other valuable items belonging to the victims, were recovered.
He confessed that he had stolen the items from cars with help of two accomplices based in Dubai.
When they too were arrested, they confessed to having stolen items including 15 fancy mobile phones from 25 cars parked in Mamzar corniche in Dubai, Al Buhaira Corniche and Abu Dhabi Corniche.
They told the police that they had committed the thefts with the help of three others who were later arrested from various emirates.
Items such as mobile phones, prepaid phone cards, credit cards, cameras, laptops, car keys and other items were recovered from their residences. All six suspects confessed their crimes and then referred to Public Prosecution.
