Uttar Pradesh, September 14: At least six people, including a child and two women, were killed and 14 injured when the bus in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck in Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning.
The bus was carrying 63 people from Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district. They were visiting religious places in the state and in adjoining Bihar.
The mishap happened in Ramabai Nagar (Kanpur Dehat) district, about 150 km from Lucknow, along the Kanpur-Etawah route.
“The driver lost control over the speeding bus that eventually rammed into a standing truck, killing six devotees on the spot. The driver of the bus managed to escape,” Additional Superintendent of Police Dayanand Mishra said.
“Nearly 14 other devotees were injured in the accident. They are being treated at a hospital, where the condition of four of them is stated to be critical.”
Police said the group had hired the private bus for a religious trip to places in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
