Six killed by militants in Iraq

Baghdad, November 28: Six people have been killed and two more have been injured in shootings and bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital and the north of the country.

A man and his son were killed late on Saturday when an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to their car exploded in the area of al-Darkazliya in eastern Mosul, the capital of the northern province of Nineveh, the Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

Gunmen also stormed a shop in the city’s eastern Dorat Sayedati al-Djamila area, shooting the owner to death, security sources said.

Also in Mosul, two Iraqi army soldiers were wounded in an explosion caused by an IED which targeted their patrol in the western area of al-Haramat.

In Kirkuk, two people riding a motorcycle were gunned down by militants in the city’s Tuz township. One of the victims was a member of the Kurdish Asayish security forces.

In Baghdad, a police officer was killed by armed men in the northwestern district of Kazimiya. The militants used guns with silencers to murder the captain from the Special Police Force in charge of Juvenile Affairs.

In addition, a man injured in a bombing on Thursday night in the city of Talaafar in Nineveh province died in hospital on Friday night, bringing the death toll from Thursday’s bombing to four.
