Kochi: Six youths, including the son of a policeman, have been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Fort Kochi area, and making a video of the act and threatening to upload it on social networking sites.
They were arrested on the complaint from a man, who alleged that his woman partner was raped by the alleged youth gang while they were staying in a homestay at Pattalam area last month.
In his complaint to City Police Commissioner M P Dinesh, the man alleged that the youths forced him out of the room and raped the woman after locking it from inside.
The gang, which allegedly made a video of the act after tying her up, also blackmailed the couple and made away with their car, Rs one lakh and gold ornaments, police said, adding, they also threatened to upload it on social networking sites.
The police, however, did not clarify whether it was a case of rape or gangrape. They threatened the couple with dire consequences if they told anyone about the incident, police said.
The six accused — Althaf (20), Ijaz (19), Christi (18), John Bristo (19), Clipton (18) and Sajith (20) were arrested by a special team constituted by the Kochi City Police
Commissioner, police said, adding, one of them is the son of a city policeman.
The man decided to lodge a complaint with the CPC after the gang continued to demand money from him, police said.
Police laid a trap and arrested the youths while they allegedly came to collect Rs one lakh from the man for releasing his car, which was taken away from him on the day of the incident. No mention was made as to when the youths were arrested.
