Six held for smuggling gold

Tiruchirappalli (TN), July 20: Six persons were today arrested for allegedly smuggling 47 gold bars worth about Rs 98 lakh in the international market by hiding them in their rectum, officials said.

The six had arrived from Sri Lanka by a Mihin Lanka flight here tonight and Customs officials (Air Intelligence wing) became suspicious of their movements.

The gold bars, weighing 4.8 kg, were found concealed in the rectum, officials said.

Of the six, five hailed from Ramanathapuram district and one from Chennai.
