Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday expressed disappointment over former NDA minister Arun Shourie’s remark denouncing Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government over handling of economic affairs , urging the latter to give the Centre ‘reasonable time’ to show its performance.
“To say that the government is directionless on the economic matters is well off the mark. It is very disappointing that somebody like Shourie, who is a scholar who understands economics, would say that it is directionless within eight to nine months when so many measures have been taken. This government is committed, sincere and inclusive… Shourie should give a reasonable time for the government’s performance,” Sitharaman told ANI.
“Having come with the majority, the government is functioning in the most transparent and a sincere way. On many counts it has shown its intentions of being sensitive to the poor, Jan Dhan Yojana being the classic example,” she added.
Shourie had earlier attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his poor handling of the economy, saying the government was talking big on economic matters but nothing was happening on the ground.
He also accused him of ignoring the attacks on minorities and their institutions by the right-wing groups.
Shourie also blasted the ‘trimurti’ (trinity) of Prime Minister Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, saying it had “offended the opposition as well as frightened the members of the party”. (ANI)
