SIT concludes recording statement of IPS officer

Ahmedabad, March 23: The Special Investigation Team probing some of the post-Godhra riot cases today completed recording statement of IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt in connection with the Gulburg society riot case of 2002.

Bhatt, who was DCP in the State Intelligence Bureau in 2002, was interrogated for three days by the SIT at its office in Gandhinagar.

The 1988 batch IPS officer, currently posted as the principal of State Reserve Police training centre in Junagadh district, was being questioned for 5-6 hours daily since Monday.

SIT officials said that though the recording of Bhatt’s statement was over, he could be called for further questioning if required.

Bhatt’s statement was recorded with regard to the FIR 67/02 of Meghaninagar police station, that is, Gulburg society case, where 69 persons, including former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffery were killed during post-Godhra riots.
