New Delhi, January 23:Four youths, including a polytechnic student and son of a Sub-Inspector in Uttar Pradesh Police, were arrested in the national capital for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery, police said today.
The arrested have been identified as Akshaya Kumar (19), a student of Pusa Polytechnic, Praveen Kumar (22), the son of an SI, Sushil Kumar Panchal (24) and Joginder (33), both drivers.
They were apprehended yesterday from Gokulpur on a tip-off, Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.
On January 10, they allegedly committed an armed robbery at Loni flyover in Ghaziabad during which they had fired at one person after intercepting his motorcycle, police said.
In order to save himself, the complainant jumped from the flyover and sustained injuries on both legs. The victim was the nephew of a businessman.
“The robbery was planned as Joginder, one of the accused, knew that huge amount of money is deposited in a bank every morning by the nephew of the businessman. Joginder had been reprimanded and thrown out of his job with them. He nursed enmity against his employers,” Chand said.
