Singer files harassment case against hubby in Humayun nagar ps

Telangana folk singer Madhupriya’s dowry harassment case took a new turn on Sunday with her husband Srikanth lodging a complaint with the police that relatives of the girl thrashed him in the early hours.

After lodging a complaint with the Humayun Nagar police on Saturday night alleging that her husband Srikanth had been mentally harassing and physically torturing her for additional dowry, Madhupriya underwent treatment in the Osmania Hospital and went along with parents on Saturday night. On coming to know that Madhupriya went away along with her parents, Srikanth, accompanied by a few friends, reportedly went there and asked her as to why she had filed a police complaint against him. Srikanth alleged that Madhupriya’s relatives brutally assaulted him causing grievous injuries on his face. Later, he got himself admitted to the Yashoda Hospital at Somajiguda. Meanwhile, Madhupriya’s relatives also lodged a complaint with the Uppal police alleging that Sreekanth and his friends tried to attack them.

They alleged that Srikanth threatened them with dire consequences for filing a harassment case and used foul language against Madhupriya and her relatives. But, Srikanth said he went to her parents house after they called him to solve the dispute between the couple through discussions.

On Sunday, the Humayun Nagar police conducted counseling for both. While Srikanth came to Sakshi electronic media, Madhupriya spoke from her parental house. Madhupriya stated that Srikanth began harassing her three months after the marriage and was using foul language. “I have opposed my parents and went ahead with the marriage. Now he states that I should either live or die at his house only,” she added.

It may be mentioned here that the folk singer married Srikanth against the wishes of her parents, in a wedding that was widely publicized in the media. While Madhupriya alleged that was mentally and physically torturing her for dowry every day, Srikanth said if the allegations were proved, he was ready to cut his throat or hang himself to death. He said he was also  ready to go to jail. (NSS)
