Kolkata, March 15:Renowned singer Anup Ghoshal, who lent his voice to evergreen songs of Satyajit Ray’s popular ‘Goopy Bagha’ series of films, will contest the upcoming West Bengal assembly polls on a Trinamool Congress ticket.
“It is true, I am contesting polls on a Trinamool ticket. I will be contesting polls from Uttarpara assembly seat. I want to do something for the common people. I am hopeful of winning,” Ghoshal told IANS Tuesday.
“Mamata (Banerjee) requested me to contest and I couldn’t turn her down. I would love to help the upcoming singers of Uttarpara who are poor and would also spread the magic of music,” said Ghoshal, who also sang for movies like “Sagina Mahato” and “Masoom”.
The Uttarpara assembly seat is in Hooghly district, where the automobile division of Hindustan Motors is situated. Ghoshal will contest against Left Front candidate Srutinath Praharaj.
Famous Bengali actor Chiranjeet Chakroborty too will be contesting the polls on a Trinamool Congress ticket.
Trinamool sources Tuesday confirmed that Chiranjeet will contest from Barasat assembly seat against Left Front candidate Sanjib Chatterjee.
