New Delhi: A chartered Air India flight to Udaipur, with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on board, had to return to Delhi minutes before landing on account of bad weather.
The visiting dignitary, however, reached Udaipur after a delay of two-and-a-half hours when the skies had cleared.
The aircraft left the national capital for Udaipur around 1430 hours but had to return just about 10 minutes before the scheduled landing because of inclement weather, sources said.
The flight took off again from here and landed in Udaipur at 1912 hours, after a delay of about two-hours-and-a-half, Airports Authority of India sources said.
“Sometimes Mother Nature has her own plans. We were just ten minutes away from Udaipur when bad weather and poor visibility forced our plane to turn back to New Delhi,” Lee said in a Facebook post and also posted a video of the weather condition, apparently shot from the plane.
A flight from Delhi to Udaipur usually takes a little over an hour.
Lee was scheduled to visit the Celebration Mall, developed by Singapore-based real estate firm CapitaLand, the first Singapore company to invest in Rajasthan, and launch a Centre of Excellence for Tourism Training in Udaipur.
According to Channel NewsAsia, it is understood that Lee would have a shortened programme at the mall due to the flight delay.
