Sindhu receives Rs 3 crore cheque from Andhra Pradesh govt

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu tonight handed over a cheque for Rs three crore to Olympic silver medal-winning shuttler P V Sindhu.

He also presented a cheque for Rs 50 lakh to Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand and Rs 25 lakh to badminton player Kidambi Srikanth, who also competed in Rio Olympics.

The cheques were presented at the grand finale of the Krishna Pushkaram at Pavitra Sangamam at Ferry village near here.

Head of Sri Datta Peetham, Mysuru, Ganapati Satchidananda Swamy felicitated Sindhu and others on the occasion.

The state government had announced a cash reward of Rs 3 crore to Sindhu, a 1000-square yard residential plot in the state’s new capital city Amaravati and also offered a Group-1 officer job of her choice in the state government.

On August 20, the state Cabinet also decided to reward Gopichand with Rs 50 lakh for propelling Sindhu to Olympic glory.

This morning, the Chief Minister announced that Gopichand would be given 15 acres of land in the proposed Sports City in Amaravati for setting up a world class badminton academy.

Sindhu has not revealed if she will take up the job offer.
