Singapore: Indian ace shuttler P.V Sindhu advanced to the second round of the Singapore Open after battling past Thailand’s Busanan Ongbumrungphan in the women’s singles event on Wednesday.
After suffering a first-game defeat, Sindhu staged a spirited fight back to secure a 9-21, 21-17, 21-11 win over her Thai compatriot in her opening round contest that lasted for 54 minutes.
In the men’s singles event, H.S Prannoy suffered a major blow as he knocked out of the tournament after going down 21-18, 18-21, 19-21 at the hands of top-seed Chen Long of China.
Meanwhile, Ajay Jayaram also crashed out of the tournament after suffering 17-21, 16-21 defeat against German opponent Marc Zwiebler. (ANI)
