Simmering OU PG students boycott semester exams

Hyderabad, January 20: The undercurrent of anger at the government is palpably visible at the examination centres where PG students of colleges affiliated to the Osmania University have called for boycotting of the semester examinations until a Telangana Bill is introduced in the Budget Session of Parliament.

The students, under the aegis of Osmania University Joint Action Committee raising `Jai Telangana’ slogans staged a massive rally in the University campus, demanding postponement of semester examinations until the Centre introduces a Telangana Bill in Parliament.

The OUJAC also gave a call to students to boycott the examinations under Osmania University affiliated PG colleges.

The students’ anger that the government was adamant to go ahead with the conducting of the examinations despite their protests has been simmering ever since the ‘diplomatic’ options given by the Justice Srikrishna Report in its recommendations became known.

This simmering anger is largely attributed to be behind the tension which prevailed at the examination centres on Thursday, where protesting students were seen having heated arguments with the police.

Despite the opposition by the students, the university officials however stated the semester exams would be held as per schedule since they had already been postponed twice.

Meanwhile the police imposed section 144 at all examination centres to prevent untoward incidents.

At Nakerekal and Warangal, the students tore their hall tickets and to express their anger at the government’s decision to go ahead with the examinations.

At Siddipet and Sangareddy in Medak district, the students boycotting the examinations took out a rally and staged a Rasta Roko at Ambedkar Circle. The students demanded resignation of elected representatives to their posts expressing solidarity to Telangana agitation
