SIMI activists granted bail

Hyderabad City Police had to cut a sorry figure when the 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Nampally Criminal Court granted bail to two alleged SIMI activists belonging to Maharastra, namely Shah Mudassir and Shoeb Ahmed Khan who were arrested on 22nd October 2014 from Secunderabad Railway Station. Gopalpuram Police of Secunderabad had arrested them claiming that they were planning a terrorist attack on the country. They were trying to go to Afghanistan. After arresting them the case handed over to Special Investigation Team. They were interrogated in police custody. SIT had claimed that Shah Mudasir and Shoeb Khan had planned in collaboration with Motasim Billah of Saidabad to go to Afghanistan for getting terrorist training which the police foiled.

The pleader had filed a petition on behalf of them contending that their clients have been in prison for more than 3 months and SIT has failed to file charge sheet against them. The Govt. pleader opposed the bail. The pleader of the SIMI activists told that the claim of the prosecution pleader is false and pleaded the court to grant bail under section 167(2) of CRPC. The Magistrate granted them conditional bail and ordered for their release. As per the orders of the court, every accused has to deposit Rs. 25000 caution money. The Magistrate further ordered that the accused have to present themselves before the investigating officer. The police will accept the bail only after getting satisfied about the credibility of the persons who have given sureties. It may be noted that police had arrested Mudasir and Shoeb and had declared Motasim Billah as absconding. It had alleged that Motasim had called these SIMI activists to Hyderabad from Maharashtra with an intention to send them to Afghanistan.
