An estimated 70-72 percent eligible voter are likely to cast ballots on Saturday in the Delhi assembly elections witnessing a tight triangular contest amid AAP, BJP and Congress, according to a quick survey conducted by the ASSOCHAM Social Development Foundation.
“Voter turnout in Delhi may rise by about five percent this time round up from 66 percent in 2013 as majority of Delhiites wish for a stable government,” noted a survey conducted by ASSOCHAM.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) carried out a survey under the aegis of ASSOCHAM Social Development Foundation (ASDF) in all the 70-seats of Delhi assembly and interviewed about 700 eligible voters (100 in each constituency) including equal number of both men and women during the course of past fortnight to gauge the mood amid Delhiites vis-a-vis elections.
About 70 percent of the total number of respondents said they are gung ho about exercising their franchise to give a decisive mandate for a stable government the capital city where no government could be formed due to a fractured mandate in 2013 assembly elections, highlighted the ASSOCHAM survey.
However, about 15 percent of the total respondents said they plan to make most of the weekend and have planned an outing with family. While the remaining remained undecided said they have not made any plans so far.
“Election Commission’s efforts to increase turnout and encourage people to vote by carrying out various campaigns to inform and create awareness about the importance of casting vote are expected to significantly boost the polling percentage this time,” said D.S. Rawat, secretary general, ASSOCHAM while releasing the findings of the survey.
“The Election Commission has been able to motivate and create a sense of excitement amid voters ahead of the polls through texts, e-mails and social networking websites and other areas,” said Rawat.
Voters in north, east and west Delhi are most enthusiastic about exercising their voting rights as against those in south Delhi, highlighted the ASSOCHAM survey.
Most of the respondents said they want to see formation of a stable government in Delhi and are further spreading the message amid their relatives and friends about casting their vote on the D-day.
