Hyderabad, January 12 (INN): G Siddhartha Reddy, prime accused in Pratyusha suiceide case, surrendered before police here on Wednesday.
The surrender follows the directions of a division bench of the AP High Court.
Police shifted him to Chanchalguda jail.
Earlier, the court has reduced jail sentence of Siddhartha Reddy from 6 to 2 years on his petition and fined Rs 50,000 on charges of abetment of suicide, and one more year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,000 for attempting suicide.
The court also directed him to surrender before police by January 15.
Earlier, Siddartha Reddy was sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment, by a Sessions Court. Challenging the jail sentence, Siddhartha Reddy filed a petition in the High Court.
Siddhartha and Pratyusha, who were reportedly in a love without their parents’ approval, consumed poison and were admitted to a private hospital on February 23, 2002.
Pratyusha died in the hospital and Siddharth survived.
The CBI investigation concluded that Siddhartha had driven Pratyusha to commit suicide. (INN)
