Hyderabad, August 25: A brother and sister met their end after they were knocked down by a jeep at Vanasthalipuram tonight. Jangaiah (55) and T Venkatamma (50) are natives of Chinnakaparthy village of Chityal mandal in Nalgonda district. Venkatamma came to the city to tie Rakhi to her brother this morning.
In the evening, the two, along with Jangaiah’s wife Pentamma, went to a relative’s place in Prasanth Nagar. On their way back they were hit by a speeding jeep coming from L B Nagar near Pranavi Gardens at Chintalkunta, police said. Venkatamma died on the spot, while Jangaiah died on the way to hospital. Pentamma suffered injuries and is being treated in a private hospital at L B Nagar.
According to the police, Jangaiah had adopted his younger sister Venkatamma’s son, Srinu, as he was issueless. Srinu is presently working as a barber in Vanasthalipuram.
Police took jeep driver Vinod into custody. Vinod was also on the way to his sister’s house at Erragadda for the Rakhi festivities, according to reports.
