Hyderabad: Siasat’s campaign against Dr B R Ambedkar Open University’s decision of scrapping of Urdu medium course was a big success. The university not only restored Urdu courses but also included Urdu in its notification for admission on its website. It must be noted that exams of undergraduate courses were not being conducted in Urdu for the past two years. Authorities were giving an excuse of non-availability of the syllabus in Urdu language.
Siasat exposed the anti-Urdu attitude of the university and shook government and its institutions. Following the publication of the report in Siasat Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and leader of opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir called Vice Chancellor Seeta Rama Rao but the issue was not resolved.
Meanwhile, Chairman Telangana Minority Commission Mohammed Qameruddin with reference to the report published in Siasat issued a notice to Registrar Prof Venkataiah and summoned him to the commission office. Within two days the registrar restored Urdu in under graduation course. And also mentioned it in the admission notification in its website.
