Siasat supports simple marriage campaign

Siasat Urdu Daily has started a campaign for minimizing expenditure on marriage by making it simpler. This proposal needs serious consideration by the Muslim society.

A seminar was held at Azam Function Hall at Azampura in Old City by Millath-e- Islamia Welfare Society in collaboration with Siasat Urdu Daily.

Addressing the seminar Mr. Zahid Ali Khan told that after Police Action, the economic condition of the Muslims of Hyderabad deteriorated. Now that the Muslims are improving their financial condition, they are spending more on marriages. The committees and commissions appointed by Govt. have indicated that the Muslims are educationally and financially more backward than Daliths. In such a situation, arranging delicious dinners on the occasion of marriages may be easier for the rich Muslims but the majority of the Muslims can’t afford it. The poor Muslims celebrate marriages by erecting tents in front of their houses but the middle class Muslims can neither celebrate the marriages of their children with pomp and pride nor in a simple way. It has become very difficult for the middle class Muslims to celebrate marriages in a simple way.

Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, narrating his experience during his recent foreign visit told that in those countries his campaign for celebrating marriages in a simple way is being appreciated. As part of his campaign, a function was held in Dubai wherein he happened to meet a young man who had sold out one of his Kidneys for celebrating his sister’s marriage. He is ready to sell another Kidney for celebrating the marriage of his second sister, in which case he will die. He lamented that making unnecessary expenditure in marriages is becoming a burden to the middle class Muslim. A Muslim gentlemen told him that he has four daughters. He celebrated the marriage of one daughter and he is still repaying the loans he had taken for her marriage. For him, celebrating the marriage of three other daughters has become a problem.

Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, after considering all the proposals for celebrating simple marriages, recommended to hold a round table conference and also to constitute “Islah-e-Muashira Board (Board of Reformation for Muslim Community)” for the ten districts of Telangana. Through this board, this campaign would be popularized and awareness will be created to persuade people to minimize marriage expenses at local levels. He assured that Siasat Urdu Daily will provide every help to propagate this campaign in all the districts of Telangana. He also suggested the organizers of this conference to include the editors of other Urdu Dailies also in this campaign. He further told that for any good work unity is more important to make it a success.

Mr. Mahmood Ali, MLC of TRS while addressing a conference told that the communal elements had recommended to the Govt. not to provide reservations to the Muslims citing the examples of extravagant expenditure the Muslims incur in celebrating their marriages. Against this proposal TRS prepared a film in which it was shown that before the independence of India, Muslims had monopoly in more than 46 occupations but after the independence all these were lost and ruined by others. This film was handed over to center minorities’ commission. He further told that there is a need to curtail unnecessary expenditure in Muslim marriages. He announced that he would celebrate his children’s marriages in a simpler way.

Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Engineer in his speech stressed the need to continue this campaign. It is necessary to bring about a change in the minds of the younger generation. Change will not take place in one or two days. It takes a lot of time. For this gigantic task, the cooperation of Muslim intellectuals and Islamic scholars is essential.

Mr. Alauddin Ansari, Advocate suggested that if marriages are made simpler, the parents of the bride will have relief. It becomes obligatory to attend a marriage function when an invitation is given. If the marriage is being celebrated on a grand scale, we should extend our greetings to the married couple and return without eating the food as a protest.

Mr. Mustaq Malik told that if we celebrate our marriages in a simple style, Allah(SWT) will be pleased. He further told that Allah(SWT) selects people for extracting good work from them. In this context, Allah(SWT) has selected Mr. Zahid Ali Khan. It is very strange that we have Muslim Ulema, Muslim Personal Law Board and other Muslim Welfare Organizations, but no one is coming forward to stop this evil. He narrated the incidence wherein the parents of the bride borrowed loans on more than 10% interest. We should determine that we will take this message to the districts of Telangana.

Mr. Syed Miskeen Ahmed conducted the meeting. Mr. Mohammed Abdul Qadir , President of Millath-e-Islamia Welfare Society, Dr. Ghousuddin, Mr. Mohammed Raheemullah Khan Niyazi, Mr. Mohammed Yousuf, Mr. Mohammed Azamuddin and many others attended the conference.
