It has been nearly four months since the communal riots and horror stories of rape surfaced from the 7-9 September communal riots in Muzaffarnagar, India’s deadliest in a decade, which left more than 60 dead and 50,000 plus homeless.
It reminds us the golden era of Muslims of pre-independence when each of them used to have ten thousand (10,000) to 1 lakh Bigas of land. Intellectuals and elite class Muslims fled their homes selling the lands in one night. Now what left is horrific state of Muslims, all are landless labours used to work in Agricultural fields of local Jats. Their day starts at 6 am, but ends late in the night.
Siasat’s efforts to provide education to Muzaffarnagar riot victims besides funds, met with positive results. The education centre is launched to impart Basic English Education to children of the victims. 310 young children got admitted within two days of establishment and are getting English education in the centre. 8 teachers and 2 assistants have been appointed to supervise the children in 4 classes. Siasat also providing note books and other educational materials to poor children free of cost. Besides this, clothes, blankets and other items were distributed among riot victims at Jogiya Kheda and other areas of Muzaffarnagar. The children are showing enthusiasm in learning the basics which is a good sign for their future.
The Siasat team was sent to Muzaffarnagar with the items donated by Siasat readers. Siasat has started preparation to set up 2 schools and a computer centre on 1st of February 2014. Many students have registered their names so far. The Siasat team distributed clothes, blankets and other essentials items among 160 families. It is said that more than 400 families have not returned to their homes they are insecure in the relief camps. Siasat has decided to rehabilitate riot-victims through Millat fund.
Facts that have come to light recently raise doubts over both the ability and the intent of the governments in the state and at the Centre to ensure justice to the victims. However, the Government has announce for 5 lakh compensation in 135 families. But, the local Muslim landlords have raised the land value to get the advantage of victims.
