A police sub-inspector has been charged with rape attempt by a woman in Sultanpurgosh police station in the district. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Allahabad N Ravindran said that Superintendent of Police (SP) of Fatehpur has been asked to probe into the matter and report him back within three days time. According to the charges, the woman belonging to the minority community, went to the Sultanpurgosh police station along with his husband in a case. The accused Sub-inspector T K Pandey demanded Rs 20,000 from the couple to end the matter but when they refused the police officer tried to rape the woman. Later the couple met the DIG who ordered the probe. Police is yet to register a case against the SI. In a similar incident in Lucknow last week, a Sub-Inspector was arrested by the police when he tried to molest a woman at Mall Police station.
