New Delhi : The movie ‘Udta Punjab’ may have come under the scanner of the censor board, but for veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal, it is a flick made with a certain level of courage.
“The film has been made with a certain level (of courage) because most of the people would not even choose to make a film on this subject like this. But there are other kinds of problems and that will be. Every film has some kind of problem or the other. But no one can say the film does not deal with some important problem,” Benegal told ANI in an exclusive interview.
He added, “It is a well made film. It focuses on important problems, a problem that affects a lot of young people because influence of drug on young people is a very serious problem.”
Adding on to this, the 81-year-old filmmaker said, “The film draws your attention to drug proliferation. In that sense it is a good film; people may or may not particularly care for its style that is a different thing. But it brings to bare a very important problem.”
A special screening of the movie was organised yesterday for Benegal, who heads the government-appointed censor board revamp committee.
Bollywood celebrities like Arjun Kapoor, Vikram Bhatt, Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar among others have extended their support to ‘Udta Punjab.’
Co-produced by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, ‘Udta Punjab,’ a highly talked about movie that is being keenly anticipated by a large section of youth, stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh.
It is slated to release on June 17, but is likely to get delayed. (ANI)
