Wuhan : Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has secured her place in the semifinals of the Badminton Asia Championships after edging past Wang Shixian of China in the women’s singles event here on Friday.
Fifth-seed Nehwal pulled off an upset 21-16, 21-19 win over her Chinese opponent in the quarterfinal contest that lasted for about an hour.
The 26-year-old will now play either sixth-seed Wang Yihan or second-seed Nozomi Okuhara for a berth in the summit clash.
The tournament is the last event before the Rio Olympics qualification deadline. (ANI)
