Ace shuttler Jwala Gutta on Tuesday support to the ”give it up” campaign for relinquishing LPG subsidy.
“People need to come forward and join the movement as only we can make a difference to the lives of all those who do not have LPG connections and cook on polluting fuels like wood, coal, kerosene etc,” Jwala, who endorsed the campaign at a fuel station here, said.
Jwala first gave up the subsidy herself and then made an emotional appeal to people to give up their LPG subsidy so that some BPL household could benefit out of such an action, according to an official release.
“We have over 130 million homes using such fuels for cooking and these cause indoor pollution and lead to health problems particularly to women and children who are at home.
In fact, in our country a very large number of people die of indoor pollution,” the 31-year-old badminton player said. In response to her plea, some people came forward and gave up their LPG subsidy, the release said.
Jwala felicitated two ”GiveItUp Champions” on the occasion and also addressed delivery-men, it added.
