SHRC serves notices to State, CBI on Sakhi issue

The State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday served notices to Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi, Labour Commissioner and the Central Bureau of Investigation for its move to freeze bank accounts of Sakshi newspaper, owned by Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Responding to the petition filed by Arun Kumar, a practicing advocate, the Commission issued notices and asked them to submit a comprehensive report which led the CBI to freeze bank accounts of Sakshi newspaper by June 6.

In his complaint, Arun Kumar took serious objection on CBI freezing the bank accounts of the companies and appealed to restore them immediately as hundreds of families were dependent on the newspaper and the TV channel for their livelihood. The commission after hearing the appeal, issued notices to the Chief Secretary, CBI and Labour Commissioner, directing them to submit a detailed report by June 6.
