Hyderabad, July 06: Expressing its anger over the developments in Osmania University, the State Human Rights Commission on Tuesday directed Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy to submit a comprehensive report before it by July 6.
Admitting a petition filed by lawyers from Telangana seeking the SHRC to direct the state government to withdraw police forces from the campus, the SHRC directed the DGP to submit a comprehensive report on developments in the Osmania University.
The lawyers also appealed to SHRC to bear the cost of expenditure of injuries suffered by students in police lathicharge and the firing of rubber bullets in the incidents which rocked the campus on Tuesday.
In their petition, the lawyers told the SHRC that the police lobbed tear gas shells and fired bullets at the students, who were agitating peacefully in the campus. The lawyers also demanded severe action on those police who were responsible for the eruption of violence.
The Commission directed the police to provide medical treatment to injured students and take steps for maintaining peace in the campus.
