SHRC notice to DGP on preventive arrests

Hyderabad, March 10: Telangana Democratics Rights Forum today approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) alleging that the police were detaining several people who were coming to participate in the Million March to be held tomorrow to thwart the programme.

SHRC chairman K Pedaperi Reddy issued a notice to DGP K Aravinda Rao to submit a detailed report to the commission by 10.30 am tomorrow. Forum convener Chandrasekhar and another advocate Govardhan Reddy filed petitions before the SHRC seeking the commission’s intervention in protecting the rights of the T-agitators and permit them to voice their protest on delay over formation of a separate Telangana state.

The commission said the police should not become a hindrance to the rights of public and asked the police authorities to file a detailed report in this regard.

The petitioners alleged that the police were detaining even general public who are travelling in buses to Hyderabad in the name of preventive arrests.
