The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) issued a notice to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner & Special Officer Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy asking him to submit a detailed report on providing night shelters too homeless people in Hyderabad.
Upon hearing a case filed by Majlis Bachau Tahreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan, SHRC Chairperson Justice Nisar Ahmed Kakru issued a notice to the GHMC Commissioner seeking a detailed report on the issue by 30th December. In his complaint, Amjed Ullah Khan said that nearly 5,000 homeless people were spending their nights under open skies in Hyderabad and the GHMC, as per Supreme Court’s direction, should provide them Night Shelters. He said that the temperature is going down every day due to winter and negligence on the part of GHMC might even lead to death of people who are spending their nights on roads. (INN)
