Shower at last in south Bengal districts

Kolkata, April 26: Hailstorm and showers lashed most of the south Bengal districts, bringing the much-awaited relief from sizzling heat and humidity.

The rain was accompanied by gusty wind measuring upto 50-60m kmph after which the mercury dropped down by four to five degrees in the metropolis. The maximum temperature was recorded at 35.6 degrees Celsius here.

Hailstorm was reported from Bankura, Burdwan, while nor’wester lashed Birbhum and Murshidabad districts reeling under heatwave for over a fortnight, weathermen said.

The Regional Meteorological Office forecast rain and gusty wind in some areas of south Bengal in the next 48 hours.

Vehicular movement was disrupted in the city’s Beliaghata area.
