Shops of historical mosques are paid a paltry rent

Hyderabad, January 5: Mostly the mosques in Hyderabad have shops in the premises so that the salaries of imam, muezzin, khateeb, khuddam etc. can be paid by the income. There are nearly 75-80 mosques like this.

You would be surprised to know that the tenants of some shops located under old historical mosques pay just 60, 100 and 150 rupees as rents. It is a matter of shame that they pay Rs. 100 as mosque rent and Rs 200 for star connection for their TVs.

They have made an association; whenever the mosque committee members ask them to increase the rent they stand together to protest against the hike. Though they don’t come to the mosque to offer prayers, but yes they do come there to have lunch, take rest and use toilets and bathrooms of the mosque.

When our correspondent asked them regarding the paltry rent they pay; they replied ‘we are here from the time of our forefathers when the rent was 2 to 5 rupees.”

Some of them even give the shop to the sub tenants; from them they collect 5000 rupees but give only 100 rupees to the mosque. Shamefully they cheat to pay for Allah’s house, but do not hesitate to pay 200 rupees for star connection.
